Iquitos/Amazon River Basin Children's Ministry

Blanca Ruiz Canaquiri does children’s ministry in and around Iquitos, Peru, as well as in several jungle villages along the Amazon River Basin.  The children learn through songs, activities, and Bible stories that either she, her daughter, or LIM team members (when we are there) lead.  Snacks and drinks are provided each time, with more on special occasions, including school supplies and Christmas presents.  Blanca serves children in some of the poorest parts of Iquitos, as well as in remote jungle villages along the Amazon river and its tributaries.

Peru Drug Hole and Prison Ministry

Jorge Salazar Chancari has a drug hole and prison ministry in both Iquitos and Peru at large.  Jorge, a former drug addict and prisoner himself, goes back to the very places and prisons to share God’s Word with the lost and broken, offering them hope in Jesus’ name.  Jorge ministers through leading worship and teaching from the Bible.  He takes food and drink to the addicts in the drug holes and food, drink, and personal hygiene items to the incarcerated, who would otherwise have nothing.  When LIM teams are in Iquitos, we are able to come alongside Jorge and lead the teaching and testimony time.

pastor and his wife

La Familia de Dios

San Juan, Peru

Pastor Rafael Murayari Curi and his wife, Delphina, lead a church (La Familia de Dios) in San Juan, Peru, along the Chambira River.  San Juan is one day’s boat ride from where we initially get on a boat to leave for the Urarina villages.  LIM stores our camping and ministry supplies at their house year-round.  Although San Juan is not an Urarina village, Urarinas regulary come through there, and Pastor Rafael faithfully teaches them the Word of God through worship and Bible teaching.  Pastor Rafael has planted several churches along the Chambira river as well.  He often hosts and leads pastoral and discipleship conferences.  LIM short-term mission trip team members have the privilege of staying at Pastor Rafael and Delphina’s house one night each trip as we head out to the Urarina villages and another night on our way back to Nauta.  Funds given in support of Pastor Rafael’s ministry go towards such costs as church and mission supplies, operating costs, ministry travel expenses, etc.

Urarina Pastor Lorenzo

Chambira River Church (Urarina)

Caimituyo, Peru

Pastor Lorenzo is an Urarina pastor in the village of Caimituyo along the Chambira River, deep in the Amazon jungle.  Pastor Lorenzo not only faithfully leads his own church congregation through weekly worship and Bible teaching, but he also disciples other believers and pastors in neighboring Urarina villages, especially those without a church presence.  LIM short term mission trip team members not only serve alongside Pastor Lorenzo when out in the Urarina villages, but we also lead his congregation in evangelism and discipleship activities when there.  Pastor Lorenzo travels with us when we go from village to village, teaching among the Urarina.  He sometimes acts as a translator, taking what is said in Spanish and translating it to Urarina.  Funds given in support of Pastor Lorenzo’s ministry go towards such costs as church and mission supplies, building repair and maintenance, ministry travel expenses, etc.

Jungle English School

South Asia

S.P. (initials included for security purposes) is a missions catalyst in south Asia who runs an English school in a very impoverished area.  His school is the only educational option for the families in the area, and he charges minimal tuition so that more children can get an education.  Since being in the area, S.P. has learned that there are a number of churches serving the indigenous population that are far off track with operating as a church and as followers of Jesus Christ.  Multiple churches are being served by a single pastor who is unqualified and likely is not a believer.  Since learning this, S.P. has hosted conferences, discipled leaders in the area, and worked on his own to strengthen the churches while running his school.  This has presented a major challenge for him, and he needs additional workers to disciple the population, raise leaders, and plant healthy churches.  The school provides a platform for spreading the Gospel in the area, and it also needs support to be able to expand the ministry and provide covering for additional workers.  This need specifically is in the area of additional, needed buildings to serve the growing student population.

South Asia gathering

Pastor/Discipleship Church Plant

South Asia

D.C. (initials included for security purposes) is a church planter and pastor living in a remote area of south Asia.  He currently pastors four churches and teaches his people truth from the Bible.  He has focused his efforts on raising leaders up through the areas in which he serves via personal discipleship, conferences, and other teaching.  As a result of his efforts, additional churches have been planted in his area and more are planned.  Due to the remote area he is in, D.C. has to drive many hours to reach remote villages, often having to walk for a while even after he has finished driving due to there being no roads leading to the village.  D.C. also runs a small English school in his area that serves a very impoverished area that has no access to education.  D.C. needs additional workers to support church planting and discipleship, and funding to provide additional school facilities to meet government standards.

"How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed?  And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?  And how are they to hear without someone preaching?  And how are they to preach unless they are sent?  As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!'"  Romans 10:14-15
