"Lean In"

By Lean In Ministries Board Member, Rick Whitaker

When our faith and obedience collide with God’s intentions, we will see the hand of God in action! For it is God who works in you to will and act according to His good purpose (Phil. 2:13).

As each of us discover our natural range of comforts and discomforts, we tend to protect our personal boundaries, which in turn defines who we are or what we might become. Occasionally, there will be a circumstance that pushes us beyond. In this place….our routine is lost. Crossing the space of who we are into the space of what we might become, requires a nudge or even a possible whack and it begins with the choice to “lean in”. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left (Isaiah 30:21 NLT).

Lean In Ministries is an outgrowth from many who have left their personal comfort zones to discover just how big God really is and how his Spirit reveals himself through us. The Apostle Paul is a good example of his willingness to step beyond his comforts. Listen to his words, I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power (1 Corinthians 2:3-5). Fear and trembling may include ingredients of leaning in. Yet, the presence of God working through our lives will leave us full, with a greater purpose and impacting others.

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” (Luke 17:5). There is always a choice.  Lean in, yes, or no?  Usually, the blessing is not revealed until after our, yes. Faith is always required. As each one of us carry our own unique life story within the context of our personality, God will always call us to something that will challenge us to lean in.

To lean in is daily. It’s also special moments that might catch you by surprise. But it is always God centered. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20). Our full surrender to Him is our bank of yeses to lean in wherever he leads.

We believe disciples of Jesus grow beyond themselves with a life built on yes, rather than no. Lean In Ministries strives to open loving, obedient hearts toward kingdom contributions of going and giving. Going to the lost and giving prayer and financial support to our frontline ministry teams.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think (Ephesians 3: 20 NLT). It’s God’s choice and blessing to share his kingdom work with us. Many today, are fully surrendered to him, where leaning in is already a yes, even before knowing the assignment. When God asks, will you lean in?
